FAQ
I know seeking out therapy can provoke anxiety. At the same time, I also know how overwhelming it can feel to not have necessary information at your fingertips. If your questions are not answered, please feel free to email me or give me a call.
-
How do I schedule a therapy session?I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation prior to meeting for our first session to learn more about you and what you're looking for. This is also a good time for both of us to feel out if we'd be a good fit for one another. To arrange this consultation, please email me at rebecca@soulsparktherapy.com. Afterwards, we will discuss scheduling and paperwork. I will also be able to respond to any billing questions that you may have.
-
What payment options exist?I accept self-pay and a limited number of clients who would like to use any of the following insurance providers for sessions: Aetna, BCBS (New Directions Behavioral Health, Florida Blue PPO and HMO), and Optum/United (Florida Exchange, Oscar, United Healthcare). If we agree to using insurance for sessions, the best way to know whether your insurance plan will cover services and the amount you will be responsible for is to verify with your insurance provider directly. Please call the back of the number on your insurance card to ensure coverage prior to your first session.
-
How much will sessions cost?Insurance will pay a predetermined rate. For self-pay clients, my rate is $150 per session and $200 for a 90-minute intake, however I offer a select number of sliding scale offerings based on client need.
-
Do you offer reduced rate or sliding scale options?Knowing how hard it can be to make ends meet and also believing that every person should have access to therapy, I offer an allotted number of fixed reduced-rate client slots for a 6-month duration to individuals unable to use insurance or afford my rate. If you are interested in this option and would like to be put on this waitlist, please let me know.
-
Do you offer faith-based or Christian counseling?I am not a Christian or faith-based counselor. I welcome clients from ANY background or identity. I value the beauty of our unique beliefs and I look forward to learning how your background and identities play a role in your life.
-
Do you offer in person and/or virtual sessions?I offer telehealth services using a HIPAA-compliant platform. I do not offer in-person sessions at this time.

What will our first session be like?I can fully relate to the nerves and anticipation leading up to a first therapy session. Whether it’s your first therapy session ever or your first therapy session with me, I want you to feel heard, accepted, and supported. This is one reason why I dedicate the first few sessions to getting to know you, your background, and key concerns that may have brought you in to see me. In the first session or two, we’ll complete an intake together, which opens the door to get to know one another. I’ll review confidentiality and some information from the paperwork you completed prior to our session. I’ll also ask you about what brought you into therapy and your history, which includes family, social, medical, and psychological history, amongst others. Then, we’ll create goals and intentions for our time together. I welcome you to share as much or as little as you’d like and to ask me any questions that you may have. At this point, you’ve taken a big step in not only seeking out therapy, but showing up. I want you to show up to a warm and non-judgmental space where you feel comfortable and accepted for who you are.
-
How often will we meet?I typically meet with clients once a week initially and as sessions progress and you feel ready to taper back services, we can move to biweekly, monthly, as needed, or end counseling sessions altogether. However, session frequency also greatly depends on you and your needs. Throughout our time together, we can discuss this whenever you’d like.

"After my last experience in therapy, I never want to go back, but I need help. Why should I try it again?"Whatever the circumstances for your previous negative experience, whether you were forced into therapy or you had a therapist that was not a good fit for you, I’m sorry that happened to you and that it has tainted your view of therapy. Just as I’m getting to know you, I encourage you to do the same. Feel out if I’d be a good fit for you. Therapists have different styles, approaches, personalities, and lived experiences and so finding a therapist whose approach resonates with you and with whom you have a solid fit and connection is important.
